a beautiful sunset and bad news

Our weekend started wonderful, with a swim in the sea and a romantic 

sunset that would fit on a kitschy postcard. Flynn had the time of her 

life, as the beach is her favorite place to run like crazy.

Sadly, I got a telephone with bad news Saturday evening; my mum had 

fallen down the stairs and lies in the hospital with a shattered eye socket, 

an eyelid torn, a broken nose and a broken wrist. We drove immediately 

to Bruges to visit her and it didn't look nice.

Today it's oma's 98th birthday! "I don't feel that old" she told me.
And I answered that she doesn't looks that old neither, what's true.
I hope I will be in the same condition as she is, if I ever reach that
age.

summer #1

Today is my first day of a long holiday. I haven't made many plans,
an it's fine with me. Let's see what comes our way, the sun is already
on our side!

1-2-3

Today I made a quiche with courgette flowers from the garden. I
used a recipe from Ottolenghi's book "Plenty More". Delicious
and highly recommendable!

For Sarah, camomile flowers. When I see them, I always think of you
and the summer times when we went to the pasture to pick the flowers. You
washed your hair with them, to lighten it.
And I, as a little girl, looked at you full of admiration. My older cousin
who knew everything, who was the coolest girl I knew.
When we became older, the age difference became less apparent. I'm happy
that we are not only nieces, but also true friends.
